And the answer is yes! All pools are regularly inspected for cleanliness and potential safety hazards. In summer, the pools get drained and cleaned regularly using a mild chlorine solution. After cleaning, the pools normally fill back up with ocean water through natural tidal action.

1905 According to the Illawarra Steam Navigation Company's illustrated handbook, Gerringong had 'good seabaths in a park with lawn tennis courts' and was becoming 'a favourite resort for visitors'. 1911 Opening of new men-only baths in a more exposed site at Boatharbour enabled the existing baths to be reserved for use solely by women and children.

The rock pool is currently open. This beautiful, tucked-away ocean pool in Gerringong is a fantastic place to snorkel or swim. It is accessed via a walkway about 50 metres long starting at the Boat Harbour Reserve. The ocean pool is natural rock with sandy beach at the shallow end. Boat Harbour offers plenty of parking, a picnic area and amenities.

On the way home from Rosedale we stopped at Gerringong Boat Harbour to take some photos of the rock pool and surrounds. (On the way down we stopped at Werri Beach, a bit further north. From the 1820s, red cedar was shipped from Gerringong's small boat harbour. Once the cedar was cut out, dairying became the district's main industry.
